The lack of comments according to the survey results affects the consumer’s decision

According to the “e-Marketplace Platforms Sector Review Final Report” of the Competition Authority, 62.4 percent of the consumers say that there is no comment about the product and the seller. He pointed out that it would greatly affect his shopping decision. Within the scope of the report prepared, 1,860 consumers were reached within the scope of the survey for consumers who shop online.

Online stores are primarily preferred for affordable prices

The most important motivation behind the consumers’ preference for online channels over physical stores was “reasonable price” with 60.7 percent. This was followed by “time saving” with 50.4 percent and “product variety” with 45.6 percent. When consumers were asked about the reasons that discourage them from shopping online, 26.8 percent of the said said they would like to try/see/touch the product, 22.7 percent said it was difficult to return, 20.3 percent said they were worried about sharing personal data. 2 of them expressed their concerns about not trusting the sellers and being deceived.

Product variety comes in second

, the reasons why e-marketplace platforms are preferred over the brand’s website are “product variety” with 4 4.5 percent. “free shipping” with 38.5 percent, “reliability and awareness of the market place” with 36.6 percent were followed by the reasons. In addition, 31.6 percent of the stated comment that they prefer these platforms due to the abundance of consumer comments.

Reviews are now read before shopping

The overall rate of those who read product reviews “always” and “most of the time” before shopping was at a very high level of 70.5 percent. Only 2.4 percent of consumers reported that they did not read the comments on the e-marketplace before shopping.

53.3 percent of consumers stated that they often buy products from the e-marketplace, where 18 percent of them always read the comments.

The survey also asked the extent to which product reviews affect consumers’ shopping decisions. 46.2 percent of the participants gave the answer “very affect” and 17.4 percent “impacts”. 9 percent of consumers stated that comments will not affect their shopping decision.
