Although I am known as a business person and an artist, my family is at the center of my life. Years ago, we settled in Izmir to live a calmer, stress-free life. My morning and evening are my children. They are my today, my tomorrow… Whenever I travel for work, we often video chat on the phone to satisfy my longing. They’re grown now. Well, my children are my friends. Many children are not a problem, they are a blessing.
What does Eid mean to you? Do you celebrate holidays in a traditional way? Do you visit your elders and call them on the phone?
For me, Eid means spirituality, unity, togetherness, the day when all members of the family are together and resentment ends. I come from a family that values its traditions and customs. Maintaining this is my most important duty.
How is the first day of the holiday for you?
The day starts with the Eid prayer for us. We get up early and pray with my children. Meanwhile, the table is ready at home. You know, we’re crowded. The feeling of eating together at a big table is different. Then I go to my hotel and celebrate with my employees and friends.
Do you continue your holiday allowance ritual even if your children are older?
Absolutely. As I said, I am a person who gives importance to traditions and customs. All my children, including the eldest Mustafa, kiss my hand and take their pocket money. Even though they’ve grown up, the kid is something else. Of course, since I have a lot of nephews and sons, the holidays will cost me dearly, but whatever. This ritual will continue.
