CRUELLA

Jenny Beavan

Disney’s live-action movie “Cruella” serves as a prelude to animation. Evil villain Cruella de Vil was a young con man (and an aspiring fashion designer) on the ’70s London punk rock scene before hunting puppies for fur coats. Emma Stone portrays her young adult years as the protagonist; The respected fashion designer, played by Emma Thompson, is hired to work for The Baroness.

Movie’s costume designer Jenny Beavan , has been nominated for 10 Academy Awards and won twice for “Room With a View” and “Mad Max: Fury Road.” “The story was strong, the characters were great,” Beavan says of the appeal of “Cruella.” “It was a great challenge and something different. I hadn’t really done the round and I hadn’t done this kind of Disney movie. ”

CYRANO

Massimo Cantini Parrini and Jacqueline Durran

The classic love story “Cyrano de Bergerac” looks more romantic thanks to director Joe Wright and costume designers Massimo Cantini Parrini and Jacqueline Durran. Wright’s film musical, based on a recent production of the 1897 play, stars Peter Dinklage in the lead role. Each costume was tailor-made for the cinema, and Parrini created more than 750 costume modules from scratch to reflect France in the early 1700s. The designer was particularly inspired by 18th century watercolors and “extreme” contemporary fashion.

“In my costumes, the modules are truly I find the need to add elements to make it unique. To keep things different for both myself and the audience, rather than completely reconstructing the clothes we’ve seen before.” he says he. Parrini was responsible for the design of every character except the female lead and romantic limelight Roxanne, played by Haley Bennett, whose costumes were designed by Durran.

DUNE

Jacqueline West and Robert Morgan

Denis Villeneuve’s sci-fi blockbuster cinema features over 2,000 exclusive looks. Nominated for three Oscars, West collaborated with Morgan to create futuristic looks for each different world in “Dune.”

In an interview with Variety, West noted that they used monochrome palettes to distinguish each sub-world, looking to natural and imaginary environments for color cues.

NIGHTMARE ALLEY

Luis Sequeira

Guillermo del Toro’s “Nightmare Alley” cinema is filled with colorful characters and an impressive cast led by Bradley Cooper. The director hired costume designer Luis Sequeira to help his early ’40s work take root over time.

He says he’s strong because of the tailoring scene: the seedy world of carnival and Chicago’s high-society show business. “The world of carnival was indeed returning to the post-depression era. “These were areas where people didn’t have a lot of money, weren’t trendy for the occasion, and their clothes were old,” she says. “And then in the city, two years from the middle, the city was about to be on the edge of fashion for 1941. And that again was actually working out what ’41’ was really all about. It was at its peak in ’41,” he adds. we have characters inside.”
