World-renowned Iranian director Asghar Farhadi is accused of stealing the idea for the movie “A Hero”, which won an award at the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, from one of his students. Farhadi, who was summoned to court in Iran to testify on charges of plagiarism, could face a prison sentence.
Iranian Director Asghar Farhadi, who gained worldwide fame with successful productions such as “Everybody Knows”, “The Salesman” and “A Separation”, is accused of theft. Azadeh Masihzadeh, a former student of the director, filed a criminal complaint alleging that he did not write the script for Farhadi’s movie “A Hero” and stole it from the documentary “All Winner All Losers”.
Asghar, who claims that the movie that earned $2 million at the box office and won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival, is not stolen Farhadi said that the subject of the film is his own research. However, if the Iranian court finds the director guilty, he may go to jail or have to give the proceeds from the film to Masihzadeh.
